Assemble set series Attempting to increase the firepower of a traditional cannon, Leonardo da Vinci designed the 12-barreled gun carriage in the fifteenth century. This canon, which was designed to rest on a rolling cart, had a wider target area and also had the advantage of being able to be loaded at the same time it was firing. The hand-crank adjusted the elevation of the canon for better aim, while the improved loading system allowed for the cannon to be loaded while it was still firing. Additionally, the widened field of fire made it a potentially effective weapon against a line of advancing troops. Da Vinci’s design was easily transported on the battlefield because it was lightweight and mounted on wheels.
